This course, apart from being a lot of fun, is
designed to give you a very good professional
grounding and is supplied with copious notes
on all the background stuff you really need to
know whether you are interested in becoming a
professional or only want to take bead
making up as a
hobby.
You will be able to see my collection of beads
by international artists and work that I am
engaged in as well as previous work. I have a
collection of books on glass beads for you to
look at and videos to sample. I like to show
students the extent of possibilities available
to you once you have taken the plunge into
glass making in all its inspirational glory!
Understanding how glass works under heat is
really important if you want a low wastage
rate on your creations and careful explanation
and illustrations of its various properties
are dealt with in an easily understandable way
and contained in the notes.
Where to get everything and how to set up is
all set out for you and in two days you can
learn all the basics. It's quite challenging
but it's also incredibly rewarding not to say
addictive.
I will show you a cheap way and a more
professional way of setting up and getting
started. Recommended equipment, materials and
suppliers are all listed in your notes.
All equipment and snack lunches are provided.
Half a kilo of lovely coloured Venetian glass
and a bound set of notes for reference are
yours to take away with you plus a share of
the demonstration beads made by us and
everything you make.
The studio where we will be working is part of
the Old Dairy where I live which is a
converted factory. It is a pleasant situation
and very easy to find near junction 21 of the
M1 motor way. There
are pleasant B&Bs nearby at £35 to£40 per
night.
