Thursday January 31st 2013

Shaping

Making a longer cylinder bead, shapes like hearts, cubes, tabs, using presses, cutting creases, adding

sculptural elements.

We had a good time – cosy – just three students but everyone made brilliantly creditable efforts on the cylinder bead with straight ends which is a bugbear to beginners and requires lots of HEAT CONTROL! We spent a lot of time on this so other shapes were just tackled briefly. There’s a lot more to cover in future classes. If you missed it we can recap :)

Dots and spots

Dot application with rod and stringer, controlling size, layering, masking, dragging, making designs such as flowers, 3D and use of dots in components.

Pulling stringers, applying stringers, making colour overlay stringers, reactions, raking and stringer patterns.

Five different methods of overlaying clear glass and paperweight techniques.
